Welcome to my Blog- Tales from the Dot Side

A little bit about me

I’m Dot, part time Nurse, full time wife, mother and daughter.  I have a very curious mind and tend to read everything in front of me.  There’s never enough time in the day for all my hobbies and projects.  Mainly because I think everything through too much before making a move.  I love everything about the world; different cultures, architecture, wildlife, and especially the sea.  I’ve a bucket list as long as my arm but when I eventually retire and have the time, I don’t think I’ll have the means.

I’ve visited Universal Orlando regularly with my other half Pete since 2005, holidaying for around 10 days each year and spending some part of every day at Universal.  Reading hundreds of other people’s blogs about all things Universal in preparation for our holidays in Orlando helped me enormously.  I want to pay it back and share my magical moments and memories to help others make their own.  I’ll also be posting about other activities we’ve enjoyed in the Orlando area.

Friends and colleagues ask why I keep returning to the same place.  I have to admit that as I’m getting older all the walking and the heat is slowing me down but when it gets to the time to come home I never want to leave.  We’ve said goodbye to rides that are closing and eagerly tried the new ones.

Seeing the face of a lady walk through the disguised brick wall entrance to Diagon Alley and her amazed expression at what she saw on the other side was the inspiration for my blog.  Even after 12 annual visits crossing the Atlantic to get there, awesome is the word I’d use to describe Universal Orlando.

My other great passion is researching my family tree.  About 15 years ago my Mother gave me some medals she had inherited from her Uncle who lost his life in World War One.  I started with a very basic tree and now I have found over a thousand relatives going back to the late 1600’s.

I’m sure everyone would like to find that they’re related to Royalty or someone famous but it’s just as exciting to find a criminal or a scandal in the family.

Many records can be found on line free of charge if you know where to look.  I’m hoping to write a few posts on starting a tree and pass on some tips which I’ve discovered on my journey.
